Two weeks into the season, six undefeated teams remain in the area. Here's a look at the half-dozen who are off to a perfect start:
AURORA (5-0): The Huskies returned three starters and nine letterwinners off last year's 6-15 team and have already come close to equaling that win total. Aurora has a nice mix of inside and outside players. The schedule will be much tougher after the first of the year, but the Huskies are building momentum for that stretch.
BOONE CENTRAL (5-0): The Cardinals are a team to keep an eye on in Class C-1 while picking up double-digit wins in each of their first five games. Boone Central picked up a big 49-38 win on Tuesday against previously undefeated Twin River. The Cardinals wrap up the 2008 portion of their schedule against West Holt, who is also undefeated, then faces a solid Gothenburg team in the first round of the St. Paul Post-Holiday Tournament.
BROKEN BOW (3-0): The Indians have four starters back from last year, and that experience has paid off so far. Broken Bow faces Ainsworth and St. Paul -- a combined 0-8 -- this week, so a 5-0 start should be expected.
KENESAW (5-0): No surprise to see the Class C-2 No. 8 Blue Devils on this list. A big game against Silver Lake (3-1) looms on Friday as the schedule starts to get more challenging.
NORTH LOUP-SCOTIA (5-0): Any opponent hoping that a Wildcat team that was hit hard by graduation would be down has to be disappointed. NLS looks ready to defend its Goldenrod Conference title and take a shot at another trip to the state tournament. A first-round game against Class D-1 No. 2-rated Humprey in the North Central Shootout on Dec. 29 should give a better indication about where this team does stand.
RAVENNA (6-0): The preseason state title favorite in Class C-2 edged Kearney Catholic 39-33 in the championship game of the Hastings College Tournament during the first weekend of the season. On Tuesday, the Bluejays won the rematch 62-32. Yes, they're good, and this undefeated run could last a while this season.
