The Lou-Platte Conference girls basketball finals are set for Saturday, and it's a rare first-time match-up for the season when Class C-2 No. 1-rated Ravenna hosts Class B No. 6 Adams Central.
Both teams can shoot the ball, both teams play strong defense, and both teams get to meet up again next week. It should be a good series.
Another solid match-up on Saturday is Class A No. 9 Kearney at No. 10 Grand Island Senior High. The Bearcats won an earlier meeting in Kearney but the Islanders have been playing at a high level the past couple of weeks. A win would help them even season series against district rivals Kearney and North Platte in consecutive weeks.
Subdistrict pairings will be released in the middle of next week. Among the teams who face tough postseason challenges are Class C-1 No. 3 Boone Central, who is in the same subdistrict as No. 1 Crofton.
Ravenna would likely face either C-2 No. 8 Blue Hill or No. 9 Sutton in a district final.
D-1 No. 5 Giltner is in the same subdistrict at No. 9 Deshler and No. 10 Silver Lake.
Expect more than the two area teams who made it to the state tournament last year. But the road won't be easy for several of the top area squads.
